Leadership and Policies

Strengthening leadership and policies to integrate traditional medicine into global health systems.

TM Dimensions

The Gujarat Declaration calls for stronger leadership and policy frameworks that support the integration of traditional medicine into global and national health systems. Effective leadership ensures that traditional medicine is recognized as a valuable part of healthcare and not marginalized or treated as secondary. Policies are essential for establishing regulatory frameworks, standardizing practices, and ensuring that traditional medicine is integrated equitably alongside conventional medicine. This includes addressing issues such as intellectual property rights, safety standards, and training and recognition of traditional healers. The declaration emphasizes the need for collaborative policies that protect cultural knowledge while expanding access to safe and effective traditional treatments.

TM leadership

Leadership plays a pivotal role in advancing the integration, regulation, and utilization of TCIM within health systems and across sectors. It fosters collaboration, innovation, and policy development to maximize TCIM’s contributions to health and sustainable development.

TCIM Governance

Effective governance of Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) is essential for its integration into health systems, contributing to health, well-being, and sustainable development. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been pivotal in this effort, providing technical and policy guidance to Member States and fostering collaboration to address TCIM challenges. By supporting cross-sector collaboration, fostering inclusive policies, and promoting science-driven governance, TCIM can be a powerful tool for achieving sustainable health and environmental goals. Integrating digital health innovations and prioritizing biodiversity conservation ensures that TCIM governance not only addresses current health challenges but also builds resilient and equitable health systems for the future.
